DO’s and DON’Ts at the TEMPLE

General Information to Devotees & Visitors

This is a place of worship and devotes are kindly requested to follow the temple rules. Your safety and comfort are our primary concern while you are at the Temple premises.

Upon arrival

  • Park your vehicle to ensure it doesn’t obstruct our neighbours’ or other visitors’ entry ways.
  • Ask at the front desk for information and assistance.
  • Do not access forbidden areas like the kitchen, offices, or storage spaces.
  • Turn off your phone before entering the temple.

DO’s in Shree Siva Muthumariamman Temple are as follows:

  • Remove your footwear outside.
  • Observe absolute silence inside the temple.
  • Pay obeisance to other devotees at the temple.
  • Respect our religious customs and usages while at the temple
  • Respect and promote religious sentiments among other devotees.
  • Help us to maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of the premises by putting your litter in the designated bins. Leave the toilets in as clean a condition as you would wish to find it yourself.
  • Devotees proceeding the temple should wear Saiva symbols such as holy ash and carry with them coconut, fruits, lemon, Ghee, Oil, Garland, incense and other items of offering to the extent possible.
  • On weekdays the Hair Offering puja can be done anytime from 9:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. During weekends, due to a large turnout of visitors, the priests are usually busy with other services. As such, devotees requesting a hair offering service may have to wait some time until a priest becomes available to perform the ceremony. At the time of the hair offering puja, three ceremonial cuts of hair will be removed. The priest will not perform this part of the ritual and the ceremonial cuts must be done by a family member
  • Please examine the devotee address book at the front desk and update your mailing address & phone number so that you are ensured of getting all postal mail.
  • As far as possible, please make all payment for pujas by cash or card.
  • Kindly turn off cell phones or set them on vibratory mode during puja. Please do not talk during Puja, if you wish to socialise then please go over to the dining area.
  • Kindly consider bringing fresh fruits. As a courtesy to our Amman, while coming to the Temple, Ladies should wear Red Saree and Men are requested to remove their shirt before entering the Temple. Children can wear Pavadai, Chudithar or Half saree. adults are requested to avoid wearing shorts and short skirts when you come to temple

DON’Ts in Shree Siva Muthumariamman Temple are as follows:

  • Disturbance to cleanness of the temple.
  • Touching the deities while praying inside the temple.
  • Commit any act of violence or harshness in the temple premises.
  • Wear footwear in the premises of the temple.
  • Leave Theepam/ Nei Vilakku (நெய் விளக்கு) on places other than reserved area at the temple.

Dress Code

ACHARAM, AKAARAM, ALANKARAM – these are three fundamentals of Sanatana Dharma – the way of living.
Coventry Sripuram Shree Siva Muthumariamman Temple requests devotees to abide by the following dress code.

All clothing must cover shoulder and knees.

Dresses like shorts, short skirts, ripped or truncated jeans or sleeveless shirts, open shoulder shirts are strictly prohibited.

Men : Veshti, Kurta, Normal Shirt, Normal Pant

Women : Saree, Salwar Kameez, Churidhar, Kurtis With Dupatta. No Sleeveless or Open Shoulder Tops. No Loose Hair Please. Wear Bindi as Appropriate

Children Below 12: Please Dress The Kids With Attire Appropriate For The Temple.
